I bought this to carve out some deeper pockets. I used it for the first time today and it performed very well. I set it up at a feed rate of 80 ipm and a plunge rate of 80 ipm with a pass depth of 1/4" and a stepover of 80%. It made quick work of a 1" deep pocket.
I will be using this to "hog out" deeper pockets and then follow up with a finishing pass with a standard endmill with a shallow pass and a smaller stepover.
First time using this I was carving out a guitar shaped like a Christmas tree. No problems whatsoever except the body was 1.5 inches and the beast is 1 inch cutting area....but it worked out. I was afraid to really speed it up but I did increase it about 50% more than I usually would. Frankly, glad I bout this.
This bit ran get when running a .400 pocket in alder using IDC's tool database, but when I changed over to cherry, using the same tool data it ran two pieces and stared the third when it broke, maybe need to slow it down. Sent tool back for replacement.
This Ben is absolutely incredible. I’m still new to CNC work but the fastest cleanest bit I’ve used yet.
