Reviews

The solid carbide 1/4 ball nose endmill CNC router bit (sometimes referred to as 1/4 bull nose bit) is the bit to use when you want to soften down those features that look too sharp on your projects

The 1/4" ball nose adds that missing delicate rounding effect to your signs and raised lettering when something seems a bit too 'hard' with your project.

As with all CNC router bits on this site, the 1/4" ball-nose endmill bit is built to last. That's why these are made above industry standards and 100% tungsten carbide.

Carbide is what professional metal machinists use to make complex items like car engines. It stays sharp 50x longer than conventional CNC router bits.

Awesome bit for fine detail from the best bit store. IDC woodcraft is my favorite company

We own a custom guitar enterprise and also an educational institution.

We recently acquired a CNC machine and purchased Vectric Vcarve software. Previously, since 1961, we hand-carved all our electric guitar bodies. We thought we would streamline the process.

We had absolutely no idea where to start, after purchasing the machine and software. After lots of contemplation, we were on the verge of giving up and selling the machine!

Wonder of wonders, we accidently ran across Garrett Fromme's videos and started watching from the beginner selection. After about a week, we set up and carved our first guitar body. Just like Garrett said . . . The video was a bit lengthy. But, he promised that, if we watched it all the way to the end, we could do a project. He was right! Garrett's videos are, by far, the best! We are now carving lots of projects, thanks to IDC Woodcraft, and Garret Fromme.

1/4" ball nose

This bit worked as advertised, and left a smooth finish. We have an order for 100 cutting boards that want a 1/4" groove, and this worked just like we knew it would.

Great Bits Overall

All my bits now come from IDC, great bits, reasonable prices and quick delivery with added treats and the added personal touch. Some of the bits I have purchased I have not used yet. I have used the 1/4" & 1/8" ball nose bits... love them. I have used both taper bits I purchased that IDC offers (.015" & .045"), these are great bits too. My most used bits are the 1/8" & 1/16" O'Flute bits for acrylic... these bits are amazing, very clean cutting. I also have the two drill bits they offer (1/4" & 1/8”) ... I have used the 1/4" drill bit... drilled through the wood like butter and fast. I have used extensively the 3/8" keyhole bit... works great. Love the 1.5" surfacing bit I have. Bits I have not used yet include the ultra-clean v-bit set... looking forward to trying these out. I also have both the badger and the beast, not used yet, maybe a little afraid of the power of these two bits. I have the 3/16" compression bit, not used yet.
If I have any wishes... trivial as it may be, I wished the 1/8" ball nose bit came in a 1/4" shank. Pretty weak, right but I usually use the ¼”, 1/8” and taper bits together, one after another… so I need to change collets in the middle of my operations as the taper bits are also ¼” shanks. Oh Yeah, I have the shark tool drawing tool, not used yet but have plans. Also have the muscle chuck... did not like the ¼” to 1/8" collet insert to use with the muscle chuck as it let loose and broke a bit and ruined a job. The muscle chuck works great as a standalone... much easier to use. I think I have other bits from IDC but can't think of them now. I know this was supposed to be a review just for the 1/4" ball nose bit... but overall, they are all great bits. Service is great too... Garrett makes sure his customers are satisfied... I had a missing bit in one of my orders... Garrett quickly replied and sent out the missing bit. So, you can tell, I highly recommend IDC Woodcraft... I will also add they Garrett puts out great videos and has a weekly podcast.
