Cover gasket is a semi-sacrificial solid foam gasket that covers your entire AirWeights table. The gasket can be customized to create zones of any shape/size/quantity. The intended use includes cutting custom zones into the gasket material, which creates a custom re-useable fixture for odd-shaped parts, or to create a fixture to cut multiple parts in one cycle.
This approach lets you cut all the way around, and all the way through the workpiece, allowing the bit to kiss the foam (set your cut depth a hair deeper than the bottom of your part). The elimination of tabs or onion skin speeds up your workflow, and gives a cleaner cut on your part.
Proper use of cover gasket material also achieves a true vacuum, where there are no air leaks, and the system pulls a strong vacuum level with the highest available holding power. True vacuum holding achieves stronger holding power than a "downdraft" approach, where there is leakage through the spoil-board.
The Cover Gasket is manufactured in adhesive-backed sheets. For use on the AirWeights table, we recommend applying the gasket to 1/4" MDF. The MDF should be faced on both sides to ensure it remains porous. The foam gasket may be faced to ensure uniformity.
